By the River Mtkvari 2
"Morning Glory"
I wanted to emphasize both the bright morning sunlight and the colorful bank of Mtkvari River in this photo so I composed it in such a way that one side is glary (somewhat overexposed) and then details gradually become clearer as the eyes shift to the right side of the frame. The silhouette of hanging branches and leaves on top help give depth to the bright scene. I didn’t use a filter (I never do) but my aging SLR had thankfully captured the moment the way I wanted it to come out.
The lone fisherman was the first of about half a dozen I caught and photographed on the same morning in less than a kilometer stretch of the riverbank along the Old Tbilisi section of the Georgian capital. I find it strange that that none of them was able to show me a catch.

The drag of endless mental work in a strange land takes its toll. Fatigue can kill so petty escapades provide hopeful deviations from the brewing madness. An aging DSLR keeps good company to a walk around the neighbourhood, a short drive to a scenic place, or a silent recollection in a quiet nook granting that the host community and the elements of nature would allow one a safe passage to solitude and contemplation. Loneliness quickly turns to joy when something exciting gets captured by the cam’s shutter then set free into the laptop’s screen followed by electric words that rush from the fingers to the keyboard in an effort to describe the moment. Alas, the brain is alive once again!

Beautiful morning sunshine! Fishing is not always about the catch – it’s about the solitude, the quiet, the exercise of preparing the lure/bait, throwing it into the water and waiting. Thinking occurs, problems are solved, heart rate and blood pressure normalize – calm sets in. Until there is a tug on the other end…

Great capture! Don’t think a filter would have made an improvement, but NEVER use one? Wow.
That’s right, Stephen. I had a set of filters which I never used when my gear were still film cameras and now I find it all the more useless in digital photography. Of course I use some of the ‘filter’ functions when editing, such as in vignetting. Thanks for the kind comment.
The light on this is just gorgeous! How in the world did you keep the left side so misty and the right side so clear?
The angle of the light source (sunlight) was still very low on the left side allowing me to horizontally distribute its intensity. Had I turned my lens a little bit more to the left, it would have been a totally hazy image as I will be shooting almost directly against the light. And if the sun was directly above, this distribution wouldn’t be possible. I’m sure you will be able to create similar images with practice. Thanks for visiting, Lois.
