Dugout 18

Dugout Up Close

With the help of a glaring tropical sun, I managed to capture some natural effects on this close-up photo of a parked motorized dugout, thus highlighting the textures of  its smooth but woody concave hull,  a yellow tarpaulin wrapping the engine, the blue propeller shaft glinting in the sun, and some mossy aluminum patches on its back surface.  The small waves on the water’s surface also helped dramatize the effect.

This brings us closer to the final photos of the PNG series which I hope to close within this week, just in time for a special series in July when A Traveller’s Tale celebrates its first year anniversary at WordPress.  But, definitely, this won’t be the last time we’ll see PNG among my photos and tales as I expect to do several more visits in the coming months.  In fact, I have barely scratched the surface in terms of photographing this exotic country. The elusive bird-of-paradise, the colorful Papuan tribal costumes and practices, mysterious traces of some tribes’ cannibalistic past — are just a few of the many things I still hope to capture.   So fasten your seatbelts as we continue with the journey. 🙂
