The Day’s Catch

Bokpyin, Myanmar

“The Day’s Catch” / Wat Kyune Island Village, Bokpyin, Thaninthayi, Myanmar / September 2016: A fisherman’s wife sorts out her husband’s catch for the day, small fish that will just be enough for the family’s consumption. Almost all of the households in this poor island village are dependent on fishing for income. There is not much option for agriculture and any potential alternative source of income is dampened by the island’s remoteness and poor access to market.  Traders who would come from as far away as Thailand are the ones making big money from whatever dried fish or shrimps the islanders produce.
