Children of Papua 14
I studied the faces and tried to capture the expressions on the faces of the folks attending a village meeting. He studied me and watched my every move like an old soul — a wise, calculating village chief.

A great photo and thoughts on this little boy.

Jessie, I love how you capture the “life” in these kids. Sometimes it just makes me sad.

It’s really sad sometimes but it’s the reality. Thanks, Gina.

Even though there is hardship (and tensions in the country) you do manage to capture some naturaly relaxed expressions

That’s probably why I like taking photos of children. Their world seems to be different from those of the adults. Thanks for you kind comment, David.

So many different reasons to love this photo. The old soul in the child. The backdrop of legs and feet, doubled with an interesting take on clothing/fashion. Barely noticeable clasped hands that hint at older/younger hands (though upon close inspection, they have to be the same person). The colors. Beautiful all the way around. And mesmerizing.

A wonderful commentary, Dezra. You actually found some details which I didn’t consciously plan for in the composition. Actually, I considered blurring the backdrop but dropped the idea. The feet and legs as well as the clothing/fashion of older kids in the background, as you noticed, contributes greatly to the composition. Thanks a lot!

It could be a lot of sadness in this photo .. but it can also be determination – there is something going on in that young boys head. Great photo AGAIN!

Or it can be both. Thanks for your thought, viveka.
