Fields of Green

Shan State, Myanmar

The people of Shan State manage to fill the rolling hills around them with bountiful crops all year long without the use of modern machines.

August 2017:  It’s probably my 5th visit to this region, the Southern Shan State of Myanmar, and yet I was still as excited as the first time I came.  There was something in the sprawling rolling fields, a patchwork of verdant vegetable plots, that provide a visual feast to my eyes.  Perhaps it was because I was born in a farm and have learned early in my life to appreciate the beauty — the life — that vegetable patches represent.  Have I been born in this part of the world, I would have been less motivated to wander.
