Terminal 6: Grounded
Journal Entry, 14 August 2012: The sun has risen. Again. And I’ve been stranded in Kiunga, in a remote province of Papua New Guinea, for two days now. This plane got grounded three days ago due to some leaking hydraulics they say. As a result, I got bumped off the next day as its supposed passengers that day were given priority to take my scheduled flight. And now I’m still watching this aircraft technician stare into the engine hold for a long time. While I was ardently praying that we’ll be able to take off on this aircraft soon, I was also sincerely hoping that he knew what he was doing.

That looks like a Bombardier Dash-8 aircraft. Great aircraft, but they all have issues.

Yeah, they call it Dash. It’s not the first time I got stranded somewhere in PNG because of this plane. Thanks for the visit.

Wow, that sucks! Dash’ are usually so dependable and fly over many continents. Tell the pilots to get a new aircraft… 😉

You have my sympathies, I’ve been in the same situation many times, usually with prop aircraft too. On reflection each time I think I’d rather be frustrated on the ground rather than wishing there was a pit stop at 30,000 feet as we fall to the ground . Adrian

True and that’s a good way of dealing with the frustration of getting stranded. Thanks, Adrian.

Thanks so much, David. My bonus for going to the airport very early was catching this man in this position as the low morning sunlight glinted on the plane’s side.
